Web of Objects

Hello Malleable Systems Collective,

I know how hard it is to build malleable systems. It is a complex problem, both conceptually and technically. At times, it feels like a problem that may never be fully solved. It is also the kind of work that is hard to explain and hard to show clear benefits. I learned this the hard way.

About ten years ago, after learning about Memex, I began working on my own vision. My old site was wisdomhunt.com. I failed many times and started over again and again.

In 2025, something finally came together. I built a prototype that I genuinely feel good about. My new site is webofobjects.com. The prototype represents real progress for me, even though there is still a lot to do.

Receiving a grant would feel like a miracle. Also it would be nice to work with others who care deeply about these same problems.

P.S. It would really help me if you guys subscribe to my YouTube channel.

Thanks,
Valentin

The idea seems interesting and I remember seeing something similar, even before I knew from the Memex in The Brain that I bought and used fluently for a while, but I stopped doing so, once I found Libre/OSS and realized that I didn’t want to have vital information/functionality hostage in closed source technology.

Do you have any working open source software prototype to evaluate current advancement and implementation? I couldn’t find anything except for the videos explaining the general idea and invitation

Offraaaaaay,

Nice to meet you and thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I’m not planning to open source it at this stage. But I’d be happy to show you the prototype in a meeting. I’m also curious to learn more about you.

And yes, I was inspired by The Brain, Notion, Anytype, and Fibery.

Let us know when is in the stage to be open sourced. After a decades old departure from closed source software, I’m unwilling to trust it any critical aspect of my life/memory, specially Inter Personal Knowledge Management (IPKM), as I told.

Regarding knowing me best, thanks. You may find a friendlier overview of my work in my not so updated portfolio, our incomplete OSS repositories and my frequently updated bliki (blog + wiki). The last one has not the Miller columns I tend to use, as I showcased in a recent post, as I discover its TiddlyWiki implementation after making my bliki and I hope to experiment with new layouts using Cardumem, my own Lua + Hypermedia Systems powered interface.

I like how you use TiddlyWiki to think in public, and how you blend ideas from TiddlyWiki with Lua/YueScript

The metaphor “algebra of hypertext” is brilliant. Hypertext with rules and operations, not just pages. Very nice.

The name Cardumem is also great. The shoal-of-fish metaphor fits a living wiki really well, and the memory reference is a nice touch.

Same here. My digital knowledge base is just too important for me to make it dependent on proprietary software. Everything lives in files (plain text as much as possible) on my own computer, is backed up by me on my own spare disks, etc. All software I depend on is Open Source and either very widely used (e.g. Emacs) or maintainable by myself.
